Roots That Run Deep In The Texas Hill Country
Born and raised in Ingram, Texas, Tye comes from a family that settled in Kerr County in the 1930s, part of a generation seeking opportunity through hard work and stewardship of the land. Over the next eight decades, the Stephens family built a livelihood ranching, improving property, and producing cedar fence posts—growing what became the oldest family-owned business in Kerr County.
Growing up on his family’s ranch, Tye spent his free time hunting and fishing, developing a connection to the outdoors that went far beyond recreation. He witnessed firsthand the impact of intentional land and habitat management—seeing spring rains bring flushes of forbs and native grasses back to landscapes once dominated by dense cedar monoculture. Those experiences shaped his understanding that good land stewardship directly improves both productivity and value.
Taking Part In The Texas Ranching Heritage
Fascinated by stories of South Texas whitetails and thriving quail populations, Tye began asking why those same results weren’t common in the Hill Country. That question ultimately led him to earn a degree in Range and Wildlife Biology from Texas A&M University–Kingsville, launching a 20-year career managing some of the largest and most prestigious hunting and working ranches in Texas. Tye and his wife, Cynthia, were blessed to raise their daughters on big country in Zavala County, where life revolved around the same traditions that shaped his upbringing—time outdoors, respect for the land, and a deep appreciation for ranching heritage.
